Retired soldier kills self in front of daughter

- Aie Balagtas See -

MANILA, Philippines - A 70-year-old retired military man allegedly shot himself in front of his daughter in Muntinlupa City Monday.

Senior Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, city police officer-in-charge, told The STAR that they were still investigating the possible cause behind the suicide of Isidro Tagum, a former member of the Philippine Constabulary.

“Not even the family could say the cause: But it could be because of his age and sickness,” Sapitula said in a phone interview.

Based on the account of Ma. Niña Lyn Tagum, the victim’s daughter, she heard a sound coming from her father’s room at about 5:20 p.m.

When she went inside to check on her father, she saw him pointing a .45 caliber gun to his head. She said she rushed to stop Tagum “but simultaneously the gun had fired.”

The victim was brought to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa but was declared dead on arrival at about 6:35 p.m. the same day.
