MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said yesterday about 100 student leaders and teacher-advisers from various public high schools in Metro Manila will participate in a two-day environmental camp being organized by the department to be held this coming week in Quezon City.
DENR Secretary Horacio Ramos said “Kamp Kalikasan,” to be held from June 17 to 18 at the La Mesa Eco Park, is a positive activity for the youth.
“It allows them to experience the outdoors and learn more about eco-friendly practices that they can adopt in their schools and in their homes,” he said.
The environmental camp, which forms part of the national celebration of June as “Environment Month,” features various mini-workshops fit for young, creative minds such as decoupage making, storybook illustration, acting and T-shirt design.
Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Director Juan Miguel Cuna explained that the activity aims to raise awareness about the many eco-friendly practices that students and their teachers can do outside their classrooms.
Kamp Kalikasan is organized by the DENR-EMB in partnership with the Department of Education, Holcim Philippines Inc. and the La Mesa Eco Park. The activity is in support of the “National Eco-friendly Schools Program” of the EMB, which aims to promote environmental consciousness among schools nationwide.
