MANILA, Philippines - While supporters were celebrating the proclamation of president-elect Sen. Benigno Aquino III last Wednesday, hailstones rained down on Las Piñas City, the bailiwick of losing presidential candidate Sen. Manuel Villar Jr.
Jasmine Alejandro, a cook at the Las Piñas Police Precinct 2, said the hailstorm started at around 5:30 to 6 p.m. in Zapote.
She said many rushed to seek shelter as the hailstones were accompanied by a heavy downpour, strong winds and loud thunderclaps.
Alejandro said the hailstorm stopped before 7 p.m.
“I was surprised (by the hailstones) and I even touched it. It was cold,” she said in a phone interview.
