MANILA, Philippines - Former solicitor general Francisco Chavez was charged with libel by a law firm before the Makati prosecutor’s office yesterday.
In the complaint, lawyer Raoul Angangco of the Villaraza Cruz Marcelo and Angangco Law Offices said Chavez reportedly maliciously attacked members of “The Firm” to tarnish their reputations and advance his “selfish interests.”
“In fact, such malice is evident from the crucial timing of these attacks, at the onset of the term of the incoming Chief Executive, who is now in the process of selecting appointees to key positions in his administration,” read the complaint.
The Firm is considering all options, including seeking the disbarment of Chavez, he added.
Angangco said Chavez allegedly accused The Firm of alleged “influence-peddling and illegal transaction” and claimed that The Firm is attempting to return to the corridors of powers in the incoming administration of President-elect Benigno Aquino III.
