MANILA, Philippines - Five brothers-in-law reportedly stabbed dead a man in Makati City for no apparent reason, police said yesterday.
Senior Police Officer 1 Lewelie Cristobal told The STAR that Joel Rendon and his brothers-in-law Jason, Mark, Christian, and Koy-koy Amarga were all under the influence of alcohol when they reportedly attacked Jason del Rosario of Barangay Tejeros, Makati City at around 1 a.m. Sunday.
Witnesses said the suspects did not know the victim, but only vented their anger on Del Rosario after failing to get back at a man who earlier hit Rendon.
The suspects reportedly used two knives and an ice pick on the victim, who was rushed to Acute Care Center in Malugay but was declared dead on arrival.
Rendon was inquested yesterday and remains detained at the Makati police headquarters, while the Amarga brothers remain at large.
In Las Piñas, Senior Inspector Gorgonio Nartes said a construction worker was reportedly beaten to death by Rely and Dersos Causing over an alleged unfair decision during an illegal cockfight (tupada) Sunday afternoon.
Nartes said the incident took place at about 5 p.m. at the TS Cruz Subdivision in Almanza Dos, where the Causing brothers and victim Jacinto dela Peña are also residents.
The suspects, Nartes said, beat Dela Peña until he fell to ground and lost consciousness. He was rushed to Las Piñas Medical Center but died an hour later. The Causings reportedly fled after the attack.
