Department of Education activates 'Balik Eskwela' assistance center

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) has activated its annual Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) Information and Action Center where parents, students and the general public can seek assistance on matters concerning the start of classes.

Education Secretary Mona Valisno said the OBE command center will maintain landline and cell phone numbers and an email address where complaints, especially about violations of the Dep-Ed’s “no collection” policy can be called or sent.

Valisno led the simple opening ceremonies of the OBE center at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Central Office in Meralco Avenue, Pasig City, yesterday.

“The action center will cater to the needs of the public as regular enrollment begins today,” she said. “Everyone is free to visit or call us until June 18 to air any concern related to enrollment and the opening of classes.”

With the opening of classes still one week away, Valisno said that enrollment concerns are expected to make up much of the reports and complaints to be received by the command center.

The center will be manned by DepEd personnel and is open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Inquiries, requests and complaints may be brought in, called in, emailed or texted to the OBE center.

“OBE is replicated in our regional and division offices for easy access,” added Valisno. “Representatives from our partners in the (police) and (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) will also be at hand for prompt assistance to the public.”

According to Valisno, several employees will be assigned at the walk-in desk, call center, and quick response unit to serve the public. Reporters may also visit to get the latest update on the preparations for school opening. Others will be tasked to monitor the news for any complaints or requests coursed through media.

The OBE action center may be reached through telephone numbers (02) 636-1663, (02) 638-7529 to 31. Parents may also send messages to email address [email protected] or cell phone number 0919-456-0027. Those within Metro Manila may drop by at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan at the DepEd complex in Pasig City or visit the nearest DepEd division or regional office.
