Community leader gunned down in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines - A community leader, said to be a police anti-drug informant, was killed in front of her house in Quezon City on Saturday afternoon.
“Purok leader” Sylvia Quebec, 49, of Barangay Commonwealth died on the spot from a fatal gunshot wound from a .45 caliber pistol in the forehead.
Superintendent Crisostomo Mendoza, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 6, said the killing happened at past 5 p.m.
Witnesses described Quebec’s attackers as two men riding a Kawasaki motorcycle, their heads covered with bonnets, sunglasses and helmets.
The witnesses said Quebec was standing in front of her house when the attackers drove up to her and one of them repeatedly shot her. As she fell, the assailants fled toward Commonwealth Avenue.
Mendoza cited information that Quebec had been an anti-narcotics asset and helped police crack down on the illegal drug trade in the neighborhood.
Another angle that investigators are also looking into is the possibility that the victim had a dispute with “video karera” operators in the neighborhood since she was reportedly trying to rid the area of these machines.
