MANILA, Philippines - A cabbie was robbed and killed by criminals who posed as passengers and boarded his vehicle in Quezon City.
Taxi driver William Herrera, 47, of MGE Transport Corp., was already lifeless when he was found at past midnight yesterday, slumped in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Herrera sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the neck from a .38 caliber bullet.
Senior Police Officer 2 Mario Turiano said the taxicab (TXF-469) had hit the gutter along Damayan street in Barangay Batasan Hills.
Residents said they heard two successive gunshots and saw two persons alight the taxi. They later found the victim dead at the driver’s seat.
Turiano said it was not clear how much money was taken from the victim.
He said one of the suspects could be a resident who previously had a fight with someone and fired a .38 caliber bullet at that person and missed.
Turiano said the slugs and shells recovered from the two separate incidents will be analyzed to determine if they came from the same gun.
