Man, woman dragged to death in Nagtahan
MANILA, Philippines - A man and a woman backrider were killed after the motorcycle they were riding in was dragged by a trailer van on top of the Nagtahan bridge in Pandacan, Manila past midnight yesterday.
Officer-on-case SPO3 Rizalino Intal said Rosendo Rosel Jr., 35, a mall employee, of Fabie Estate, Paco, Manila was killed on the spot, while the still unidentified woman died while being treated at the Ospital ng Sampaloc.
Traffic policemen said Rosel was identified by his wife, but claimed not knowing the identity of the woman who was riding in tandem with her husband at the time of the accident.
In his report to Traffic chief Superintendent Rizalino Yap, Intal said the accident happened past 1 a.m. at the northbound ascending portion of Nagtahan bridge, the site of several traffic accidents in the past. The victims were riding a motorcycle (IZ-4235) when the bulk trailer of a van (PUJ-754) hit their vehicle and dragged it for several meters.
The impact sent Rosel crashing on the pavement and ran over by the trailer’s wheels, while the woman was dragged under the trailer’s wheels.
The driver of the van, Roger Deang, 32, of Masambong, Quezon City surrendered to authorities, while the van is now impounded at the Manila Traffic Bureau.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and damage to property were filed against the driver of the van who is presently detained at the traffic bureau jail.
