Chemical leak downs residents, kills animals in Quezon City barangay

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - Several persons living in the vicinity of a house along Matimtiman street in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City were hospitalized due to fumes that leaked from a chemical tank, police said yesterday.

Superintendent Victor Arevalo, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 10, said an “old, rusty oxygen tank” kept at 26 Matimtiman street leaked at around 1 p.m. yesterday. He described the smell as similar to that of muriatic acid.

Arevalo said dead stray animals were found on nearby streets, and some pets kept in surrounding houses died.

Bureau of Fire Prevention personnel took the tank for disposal.
