Aguilar proclaimed Las Piñas city mayor
MANILA, Philippines - Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel Aguilar was proclaimed winner in the mayoralty race in the city Tuesday, the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office declared.
Vergel of the Nationalista Party (NP) earned 168,309 votes as against Liberal Party’s Felix Sinajon who gained 8,093 votes.
Vergel’s running mate Luis Bustamante also won over rival, independent vice mayoralty candidate Benjamin Gonzales.
Bustamante got 146,981 votes while Gonzales garnered 21,238 votes.
In the congressional race in the city, Mark Villar, son of NP presidential bet Manny Villar, won with 149,823 votes.
For District 1, winning candidates for the council posts are Dennis Aguilar, Buenaventura Quilatan, Oscar Peña, Mark Anthony Santos, Alfredo Miranda and Rex Riguera.
For District 2, Carlo Aguilar, Ruben Ramos, Henry Medina, Danilo Hernandez, Renato Dumlao and Leopoldo Benedicto were declared winners.
The proclamation was held at City Council session hall Tuesday at about 8 p.m.
