Unopposed Oreta, allies win in Malabon
MANILA, Philippines - The Malabon City board of canvassers proclaimed yesterday morning Mayor Canuto Oreta, who ran unopposed, and his allies as winners in the vice mayoral, congressional and city council races.
Oreta, who ran under the Lakas-Kampi coalition, gathered a total of 104,245 votes while his nephew, Antolin Oreta (Liberal Party), won as vice mayor.
Josephine Lacson Noel (Nationalist People’s Coalition), won in the race to represent the lone congressional district of Malabon in the House of Representatives with 52,815 votes against her closest rivals, Vice Mayor Arnold Vicencio, who got 42,961 votes; Ricky Sandoval, 27,509; and Jayjay Yambao, 7,640.
Though the city has only one newly created congressional district, the city council is divided into two districts.
The winning candidates for first district councilors are Maricar Torres, Ian Borja, Jimmy Dulaog, Payapa Ona, Leslie Yambao and Edwin Dimagiba.
For the second district, the proclaimed winners are Dado Cunanan, Eddie Nolasco, Edward de La Cruz, Tato Espirito, Len Yanga and Rufing Bautista.
