Celebrities dominate in Parañaque but Marquez loses

MANILA, Philippines - Five celebrities were elected as councilors in Parañaque City yesterday.

In District 1, former actress Vanessa Moreno Salic, better known as Alma Moreno; singer Roselle Nava and Philippine Basketball Association sports analyst and former basketball player Jason Webb were proclaimed winners aside from Eric Olivarez, Raquel Gabriel, Brillante Inciong, Rufino Allanigue and Ricardo Baes.

Actor Valmar Sotto and comedian Ryan Yllana were elected councilors in District 2 apart from Enrico Golez, Edwin Benzon, Florencio Bernabe III, Florencia Amurao, Conchta Bustamante, and Carlito Antipuesto.

Salic’s ex-husband, actor Joey Marquez, failed in his bid to unseat re-electionist Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr.

Bernabe garnered 82,919 votes while rivals Rep. Edza Zialcita got 66,045 and Marquez, 38,007.

Actor Anjo Yllana, elder brother of Ryan Yllana, lost to Bernabe’s running mate, Gustavo Tambunting, who got 96,279 votes compared to Yllana’s 80,642.

Edwin Olivarez won in the congressional race in the first district, while Roilo Golez won in the second district.
