Abalos wins in Mandaluyong
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed yesterday re-electionist Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Jr. as the winner in the city’s mayoral race.
Abalos garnered 102,705 votes while his closest rival Ernest Domingo-Buan got 20,000 votes.
Abalos is at present the president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) and League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP).
Abalos first became mayor of the city in 1998. After his third term, he swapped places with Mandaluyong Rep. Neptali Gonzales II and became the lone representative of the city from 2004 to 2007.
He ran and won again as mayor in May 2007 and was reelected last Monday.
Other winners were Gonzales, who ran unopposed in the congressional race, and councilors Jonathan Abalos, Anthony Suva, Louie Espinosa, Severo Servillon, Alex Santos, Edward Bartolome, Michael Ocampo, Noel Bernardo, Alex Sta. Maria and Francisco Esteban.
