MANILA, Philippines - A pedestrian was hit by a bus while trying to cross EDSA by the Santolan MRT station yesterday in Quezon City.
Inspector John Ganzon, Traffic Sector 4 commander, identified the victim as Raoul Dominic Bonnevie, 27, resident of Unit 601, Platinum 1000, Annapolis street, Greenhills, San Juan City. Bonnevie was declared dead on arrival at around 5:10 a.m. by attending physician Raslanie Bangcola of the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) where he was taken for treatment of severe multiple head and body injuries.
The still unidentified driver of the Safeway passenger bus (TXG-440) fled on foot after slamming into Bonnevie who was then crossing the southbound lane of EDSA. Traffic investigators said they presumed the victim came from the center island at around 4:30 a.m. yesterday and tried to cross the southbound lane of the highway without using the pedestrian walkway.
Bonnevie was hit on the left side of his body. An MMDA rescue team on board Rescue Ambulance 6 soon arrived and took the victim to the nearest hospital.
The still unidentified driver of the Safeway bus remains at-large. The bus has been impounded at the police station premises.
The suspect faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
