Boy dies in Tondo sortie

MANILA, Philippines - A campaign sortie in Tondo, Manila turned tragic on Saturday afternoon after a mini-fire truck ran over and killed a four-year-old boy trying to get candies from a candidate.

A report from Manila Traffic Management Bureau said the victim, identified as Dirk Pacheco, died at the Mary Johnston Medical Hospital, due to fractures in several parts of the body.

The boy was picking candies given out by council bet Peter Ong during motorcade along Kagitingan and St. James Sts. at around 4 p.m. when the vehicle being driven by a certain “Ricky” ran over him.

Ong’s camp reportedly promised to shoulder the boy’s hospital and funeral expenses.
