Man nabbed for dumping truckload of garbage in Manila street
MANILA, Philippines - A junk shop driver was arrested by the police early morning Tuesday after he was caught in the act of illegally unloading a truckload of garbage along the sidewalk near the Intramuros Golf Course in Port Area, Manila.
Manila Police District’s General Assignment Section head Chief Inspector Marcelo Reyes identified the driver as Salvador Galiste, 40, an employee of Will Yo Mar junk shop located along Onyx st., San Andres Bukid, Manila.
According to Reyes, Ricardo Cambronero, public service foreman monitoring of the Manila City Hall, called up for police assistance after witnessing three men unloading garbage from a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (GFF-978).
However, when a police mobile car arrived, two of the three men immediately boarded a motorcycle and sped towards the direction of Delpan bridge, leaving Galiste behind.
At the police headquarters, Galiste said he was instructed by his employer, a certain Wilfredo Patdu, to collect garbage from Makati where he will be paid by an alias “Loloy.”
When the garbage were collected, Galiste said he was told by Loloy to dump the garbage along Bonifacio Drive. Reyes said there are several complaints of illegal disposal of garbage in several streets of Manila. He surmised that it could be the evil intent of the perpetrator to tarnish the services of Leonel, or could be the handiwork of some persons to make it appear that the city of Manila is stinking. – Nestor Etolle
