The Parañaque City government is planning to create an award-giving body to give due recognition to outstanding locally produced films.
Mayor Florencio Bernabe said the creation of the Parañaque Film Critics Award is on the drawing board. The award, he said, will be given to digital films, performances, and excellence in broadcast and electronic media.
He traced the city government’s interest in digital filmmaking to its financial contribution to the production of “Ugat ng Lupa,” an independent digital film that has won critical acclaim in various film festivals in Spain and France.
Among the city government’s major initiatives include a commitment to support a digital filmmaking workshop organized by Plusiminus Film Camp from April 5 until May 10. The city will reportedly be in charge of the venue for the seminar and practical sessions.
While the workshop is open to the public, the organizers are encouraging overseas Filipino workers, teachers, students and press workers to attend. – Rhodina Villanueva
