Binay son to retain Makati's anti-gambling policy

-

MANILA, Philippines - Makati Councilor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay, who is running for the city’s top post, said yesterday he will retain the city government’s “no gambling policy” if he is elected.

“We will not let gambling rule over our city,” said Binay, son of Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay.

The younger Binay said he has received reports that certain quarters intend to push for the opening of a casino in Makati and are looking for sympathetic local candidates to back up their plan.

Binay challenged other mayoralty bets to tell the voters their stand on gambling.

Carmelito Anzures, campaign spokesman, said they are amused that candidates known to frequent casinos “and considered high rollers in Las Vegas and Macau” are now projecting themselves as anti-gambling advocates.

“The Makati voters are thinking voters. They know who these candidates are and will not be swayed by their outright lies,” he said. – Rhodina Villanueva, Sandy Araneta
