Retired Army sergeant gunned down in Malabon

-

MANILA, Philippines - A retired Army master sergeant was shot dead by unidentified attackers near his house in Malabon City on Thursday.

Roberto Sanchez, 56, a resident of Barangay Tonsuya, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Senior Police Officer 2 Ferdinand Espiritu, Malabon City police investigator, said they recovered several shells for .45 and .9mm pistols at the crime scene.

Police also found a bullet for a 12-gauge shotgun in the victim’s pants pocket.

Espiritu said Sanchez was walking home in Barangay Tonsuya when several armed men shot him at close range at around 9 a.m.

Stray bullets hit security guard Elfidio Catidas, 41, who happened to pass by the area, in the right hand and left arm. He is confined at the Dr. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Espiritu said Sanchez survived an ambush attempt last March 6.      – Pete Laude
