Next Quezon City leaders to benefit from city's gains

MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said yesterday the financial gains attained by the city government over the past eight years would be a boost to the next city administration, which will inherit billions of pesos in savings.

“I can assure you that we will not drain the financial resources of the city,” he told city hall employees during yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony.

He said that in 2001, he found that the city government was P1 billion in debt, had P2 billion in payables, and its coffers were empty.

The mayor said his administration is winding up the completion of infrastructure projects lined up for this year, which includes the completion of the new underpass and the construction of the new Quezon City General Hospital.

Belmonte urged city employees to maintain the values of hard work, innovation, and integrity, which has contributed to the city’s financial success.    – Perseus Echeminada
