MANILA, Philippines - A new monument to the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino will be unveiled this month near the Manila Hotel.
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim earlier announced his plan to unveil the Cory monument at the corner of P. Burgos Drive and Roxas Boulevard, beside the monument of her slain husband, former senator Benigno Aquino Jr., across the Manila Hotel to coincide with her birthday on Jan. 25.
The mayor himself financed the project, a statement from the Manila City Hall said earlier.
Lim wants to honor the country’s former presidents by constructing several monuments in their honor along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
Lim said the Lambingan bridge in Manila and a 10-storey public hospital, both in Sta. Ana, will also be named after Cory as a way of honoring her selfless dedication to the country. – Sandy Araneta
