MANILA, Philippines - A 26-year-old Taguig City government employee was stabbed dead by his jealous girlfriend during a Christmas party held at the city hall premises Friday night.
Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, Taguig police chief, said Harold Gomez, who works for the city government’s information technology division, suffered a stab wound in the neck after his girlfriend, Catherine Latayan, 29, attacked him.
Police investigators said Latayan, who works for the city hall’s cooperative unit, became jealous of another girl and reportedly confronted the victim about the matter. A heated argument ensued, it was at this point that Latayan grabbed a bladed weapon and stabbed Gomez.
Other city hall employees who witnessed the incident brought Latayan to the police station. A homicide case is being readied against Latayan.
Cascolan said Latayan claimed she had no intention of physically hurting Gomez and that she just lost control of herself.
Cascolan added Latayan claimed she loves Gomez very much it was possible that once she learns of her boyfriend’s death, she could try to harm herself. He said he already assigned police personnel to closely watch Latayan.
