Manila's 3 most wanted fugitives fall

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Police District (MPD) said yesterday it has arrested the city’s three most wanted persons.

MPD warrant section head Chief Inspector Mario Magno said Carlito Parungao, 32, the leader of “Carling Demonyo” group, was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 34 Judge Romulo Lopez. Following his arrest, Parungao was found to have six more standing warrants from various courts in Manila, Quezon City, Laguna and Baguio City for theft and carjacking.

Lopez sentenced Parungao in absentia to six years in prison for stealing a laptop from a university professor’s car.

According to Magno, Parungao leads a group of thieves and carjackers. Parungao would break a parked car’s window by smashing it with a fist wrapped in a towel, after which his group would steal all the expensive belongings inside.

Meanwhile, Magno said cousins Remigio Perez Jr., 24, and Justine Nuñez, 24, reportedly belong to a group of notorious robbers victimizing commuters along España Boulevard in Sampaloc.

Their arrest was covered by warrants issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 11 Judge Cicero Jurado Jr.

Magno said the cousins are alleged members of a group who robbed and killed a nursing student in an FX taxi along España last month. Their two cohorts had previously been arrested.                    – Nestor Etolle
