Legaspi bridge widening to ease traffic in Pasig

- Non Alquitran -

MANILA, Philippines - The widening of the Legaspi bridge in Pasig City is expected to ease traffic in the city, neighboring areas and also shorten travel time to nearby Rizal province.

In the past years, travel flow in the vicinity of the Legaspi bridge, which traverses Barangays Maybunga and Sta. Lucia, usually crawls to a 10-kilometer stretch during peak hours and even worse during the Yuletide season.

“We want to improve the geometry of the area, ensure better traffic flow, improve short-term accessibility, and mobility. Everyday, over 30,000 people traverse this path and the local government is giving a lot of importance to improve connectivity in the area,” said Pasig City Mayor Robert Eusebio.

Completed in less than a year, the project, Eusebio said will boost productivity by making the area more accessible to commuters which will, in turn, attract investment.

“We saw that countless hours are wasted everyday because of traffic. We believe that in order to continuously reap the rewards of progress, we should always invest in infrastructure projects like this,” he said.

According to Eusebio, the city’s experience with typhoon Ondoy has highlighted the urgency to concentrate on infrastructure projects.

He said the reconstruction of the Legaspi bridge is just one of a series of immediate measures to improve the traffic situation in the city.
