Biazon, son to try swapping posts

-

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Rodolfo Biazon and his son, Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, said yesterday they will try to trade positions in next year’s polls.

The elder Biazon filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for congressman at the Commission on Elections-National Capital Region office in Intramuros, Manila yesterday.

“There will be two Biazons still in the 15th Congress, one senator and one congressman. The (first) will change but (we will) almost identically (be) pursuing specific legislative agenda,” the senator said.

He said they decided to seek each other’s present posts in next year’s elections because they still have a lot of legislative agenda to pursue.

The elder Biazon, who is on his last term at the Senate, said he wants to push for reforms in the military.

The son, on other hand, expressed confidence that he could easily adjust to life at the Senate. “The works are the same so I don’t think it will require much adjustments,” he said.

The younger Biazon is set to file his COC under the ticket of the Liberal Party (LP), led by standard-bearer Sen. Benigno Aquino III and running mate Sen. Mar Roxas.

In Parañaque City, Mayor Florencio Bernabe and other members of his ticket under the banner of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party filed their COCs yesterday, but not before passing by the San Antonio de Padua church for a “pray-over” by Fr. Pete Boston.

Bernabe will seek reelection, and his running mate is Gustavo Tambunting.

His candidates for District 1 councilors are actress Alma Moreno Salic, former basketball player Jason Webb, Erick Baes, Bodgie Salvador, Raquel Velasco, Joy delos Santos, Rufino Allnigue and Florante Romey Jr.

Bernabe’s bets for District 2 councilors are former actor Valmar Sotto, Florencia Amurao, Benjo Bernabe, Larry Bonsol, Enrico Golez, Bong Benzon, Carlito Antipuesto, and Conchita Bustamante.       – Sheila Crisostomo, Rhodina Villanueva
