Tenant shoots landlord over unpaid rent

-

MANILA, Philippines - A man allegedly shot his landlord in Quezon City Monday night for telling them they were about to be evicted over unpaid rent.

Orlando Balictar, 47, a resident of Barangay Escopa IV, died on the spot from four gunshot wounds.

Police Officer 2 Hermogenes Capili said suspect Jonathan Verra, 38, who works as a security guard, fled after he reportedly shot Balictar at around 10 p.m. in front of the victim’s house.

Balictar allegedly approached Verra’s wife, Lorie, and told her that he was evicting their family because of their unpaid rentals. The couple had an argument that night.

A nephew of the victim who lived next door told police he saw the suspect approach Balictar, who was seated on a bench in front of his house. The nephew overheard Verra asking the victim not to evict them.

Immediately after that, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and repeatedly shot Balictar at close range.  – Reinir Padua
