MANILA, Philippines - A woman motorcyclist was killed while her companion was seriously injured when a speeding car sideswiped their motorcycle in Malabon City Sunday.
Police identified the fatality as Flordeliza Estember, 30, a resident of Barangay Ibaba, also in Malabon City.
Estember’s cousin, Sonny Estrella, 19, is still confined at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRMMC).
Investigation showed Estember, with Estrella as back rider, was cruising along C-4 Road on a motorcycle when a black Honda Civic (WEY-403) sideswiped them while its driver was about to turn left on Manapat street in Barangay Taniong at around 1:30 a.m.
The riders were thrown several meters from their motorcycle. They were not wearing helmets, police said.
They were rushed for treatment at the Malabon City community hospital but Estember died along the way. Estrella was later transferred to JRMMC.
Chief Inspector Antonio Ablaza, Malabon City police traffic unit chief, said the Civic’s occupants, instead of helping the victims, left them on the road. Witnesses were able to jot down the vehicle’s license plate.
Ablaza’s men, led by Senior Police Officer 1 Manuel de la Cruz, were coordinating with the Land Transportation Office yesterday to identify the owner of the black Honda Civic. – Pete Laude
