PNP unveils hi-tech command facilities

MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo will be the guest of honor and speaker when the National Capital Region Police Office inaugurates its region tactical operation and intelligence center today at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

The RTOIC is the PNP’s first state-of-the-art Command, Control and Communication Center. “It (RTOIC) has a wide array of technological resource and application that will greatly help in the conduct of police operations, especially against criminality,” said NCRPO chief Director Roberto Rosales.

Rosales said invited government officials, the media and other guests will be given a tour of the new facility and will be briefed on its modern capabilities.

The President will also lead the blessing of the new disaster response equipment of NCRPO consisting of 11 wooden boats and six rubber boats. On the same occasion, Rosales will present the first batch of 37 policemen who were trained in search and rescue (SAR) operation and would man the newly-acquired equipment.

The policemen were trained on emergency medical action, rope training, water safety and survival, boat handing, including field training exercise wherein they were presented with actual scenarios that are usually encountered during disasters and calamity. Rosales said the training would be conducted on a regular basis until at least 20 percent of the 15,000-strong NCRPO personnel have been trained in basic rescue operations.

Rosales said the training exercise is part of NCRPO’s program to upgrade its disaster response capability.
