C6 Road done by yearend - DPWH

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines - Motorists traveling to Alabang, Muntinlupa and Cavite will experience less traffic woes next month once the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completes the construction of the seven-kilometer Circumferential 6 (C6) Road in Taguig City, an official said yesterday.

DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) regional director Edilberto Tayao said as of last Thursday, they have completed 60 percent of the project and laid asphalt on four kilometers of the road.

“Just give us two weeks of good weather and we would be able to complete the remaining 40 percent of the works,” he said.

Tayao said the continuous typhoons and rains during the past two months prevented them from completing the P120-million C6 Road project. At present, there are only two lanes, but they are planning to expand it to six lanes to accommodate the volume of motorists expected to make use of the road.

“This is only the first phase of the C6 Road project. Motorists heading south of Manila, particularly Alabang, Muntinlupa and Cavite, could just pass through M.L.Quezon Street in Taguig and cross the C6 Road to get to their destination,” Tayao said.

But a substantial improvement in the flow of traffic will only be felt once the DPWH completes the five-kilometer Phase 2 of the project that covers the stretch between Napindan Bridge to Taytay, Rizal, Tayao said.

“The construction of Phase 2 of the road project would be included in next year’s budget. Once this is completed, motorists coming from the south or Taguig can just use the C6 Road to reach Rizal province,” he added.

The roadway lies beside the Laguna de Bay and the Napindan channel. To assuage the fears of flooding, acting DPWH Secretary Victor Domingo said there is a need to raise the 15-meter dike by one meter and relocate illegal settlers beside it.
