LTFRB completes resealing of NAIA cabs

-

MANILA, Philippines - A transport concessioners group, together with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have completed the resealing process of all yellow taxi units at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminals found to have defective meters last week.

Airport Transport Concessionaires Association, Inc. (ATCAI) president Romeo Sayaman said the riding public can always be assured that yellow metered taxis operating 24/7 at the premier airports never overcharge passengers, more so foreign tourists and other travellers.

Samayan told to MIAA general manager Alfonso Cusi, through lawyer Cecilio Bobila, OIC manager, Business Development and Concession Department and Melvin Matibag, head executive assistant and concurrent NAIA 3 terminal manager in a meeting last Oct. 21 and Oct. 26 resoectively, that the said defects in taximeter seals were technical in nature, meaning the seal has to be placed at the lower right side of the meter.

Land Transport law enforcers initially apprehended on Oct. 16 some 16 taxi units found to have defective meter seals during an operation conducted at the old domestic airport.

LTFRB chairman Alberto Suansing has ordered the release of all the taxi units owned by the members of the ATCAI to the custody of the association president.

The resealing process of taxi meters in question was conducted by LTFRB Senior Transport Development Officer Sonia Reyes with resealing Supervisor Ian Buenafe and Sayaman himself. Aside from having been resealed, Fanny Yrure supplier of Dragon Pro locked the taximeters to make sure that they are tamper-proofed.        – Rudy Santos
