Charges filed vs trader who threatened TV anchor

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police is set to confiscate seven firearms with expired licenses of a trader involved in gun toting of a television anchor during a traffic altercation Monday.

In his report to PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa, Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Elmo San Diego said they have filed appropriate charges against Richard Ordoñez, who allegedly threatened television anchor Cheryl Cosim of ABS-CBN and four others with a gun.

San Diego said that he has coordinated with the PNP-Firearms and Explosives Division to revoke all the firearm licenses of Ordoñez as a consequence of his actions.

“Upon the revocation of his license to possess firearms, he (Ordoñez) should surrender his firearms to the authorities,” San Diego said during a command conference at the PNP national headquarters presided over by Verzosa.

The PNP maintained that license to possess firearms is only a privilege and not a right of every individual, that’s why there are corresponding regulations to follow.

The anchor told police that their vehicle was nearly sideswiped by the sedan driven by Ordoñez and upon reaching the corner of Visayas Avenue, they were blocked by the Cefiro.
