Motorist points gun at TV anchor, 4 others

-

MANILA, Philippines - Television anchor Cheryl Cosim reported to the police Monday afternoon a gun-toting incident that started with what appeared to be a traffic altercation in Quezon City.

According to Cosim, she was with four people in a Mitsubishi Outlander traveling along Congressional Avenue when the incident happened at around 4:30 p.m.

Based on a blotter entry at the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU), the man who threatened Cosim’s group with a gun was driving a black Nissan Cefiro (XPY-497).

Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano, deputy head of the QCPD-CIDU, said they have traced the vehicle to Richard Ordoñez, who was identified by Cosim through a photo as the same man who pointed a gun at them.

Elenzano said the PNP’s Firearms and Explosives Division records indicate Ordoñez has seven firearms, all of which have expired licenses.

Elenzano said Cosim will file today a case of grave threat against Ordoñez.

He said that once a case has been filed against Ordoñez, the latter could be arrested after a warrant has been issued.

Cosim, 35, told police that their vehicle was nearly sideswiped by the sedan driven by Ordoñez and upon reaching the corner of Visayas Avenue, they were blocked by the Cefiro.

At that point, Ordoñez alighted from the Cefiro and, armed with a handgun, challenged Cosim’s group to get out of their vehicle. The man allegedly pointed his gun at Cosim’s group. The man eventually went back to his sedan and sped away.   – Reinir Padua
