MANILA, Philippines - Two persons were injured when an explosion and a shooting incident took place at a cemetery in Pateros on Sunday night.
The Pateros police reported that a pillbox bomb exploded around 10 p.m. inside the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Bagong Kalsada.
Police Officer 3 Felicito Brijuega Jr. said a female victim who was not immediately identified, sustained minor injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital.
Two rival youth groups were blamed for the incident. Several youths were brought to the police station for investigation.
Police said an 18-year-old suspect shot and wounded a construction worker also inside the cemetery.
Brijuega identified the victim as Geronimo Glory of No. 55 NP Cruz, Barangay Ususan, Taguig City.
Initial investigation showed that Glory was walking inside the cemetery when Rudy Pastera of No. 1 Waling-Waling, Barangay Pembo, Makati City, shot him using a homemade gun.
The suspect fled and mingled with the crowd inside the cemetery but policemen later arrested Pastera.
Police officers seized the gun and a steel pipe from the suspect.
The victim was brought to the Ospital ng Makati for treatment.
