MANILA, Philippines - A man with a reputation as a neighborhood toughie was killed and his 15-year-old cousin injured when they were shot at by two unidentified attackers in Binondo, Manila Friday night.
Angelo Corpin, 27, a “Commando” gang member, was declared dead on arrival at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center while Jet Lee Corpin, a high school student, is under observation at the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital.
Police Officer 3 Jay Santos said the victims were watching television at a roadside store at the Parola Compound when two armed men approached them and shot at them. The attackers then walked away.
Santos said their neighbors were hesitant to cooperate with the police. The elder Corpin was a known toughie allegedly engaged in illegal activities, Santos added. – Nestor Etolle
