MANILA, Philippines - The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said yesterday it has beefed up safety and security measures for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
LRTA administrator Melquiades Robles said LRT Lines 1 and 2 are all set for the expected surge in ridership on Nov. 1 and 2, particularly for Line 1, which is taken by those going to cemeteries in Manila.
The LRTA will enforce tight security at all stations and continue to impose the “no inspection, no entry” policy.
The LRTA said passengers are prohibited from bringing deadly weapons, sharp and pointed objects, paint, gasoline, and large bags that exceed the two feet by two feet limit. People who are under the influence of liquor will not be allowed to enter the stations.
The LRTA has coordinated with the police for the deployment of additional policemen at the Abad Santos, R. Papa, and Blumentritt stations, where passenger influx is expected to be heavy.
The LRTA will also establish a medical and public assistance desk at the R. Papa station for the two holidays. – Rainier Allan Ronda
