Man killed in two-truck 'sandwich'

-

MANILA, Philippines - A man died after he was “sandwiched” by two trucks along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Police Officer 3 Edgardo Talacay said a Mitsubishi Canter (TPV-945) loaded with sand and cement shut down in front of the Saint Peter Parish church at around 3 a.m. The Canter’s driver, Dennis Gaza, asked Roger Jacob to push the truck to restart the engine.

As Jacob was pushing the Canter, a Fuso dump truck (RJA-331), driven by Ruben Marayan, rammed Jacob and rear-ended the Canter. Jacob was killed on the spot.

Talacay said they have taken Marayan, 35, into custody. Marayan faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to properties.

Talacay said the area where the mishap occurred was dark and had no street lamps.        – Reinir Padua
