Shop's spy camera catches light-fingered guard

-

MANILA, Philippines - A security guard was caught on video stealing from a furniture shop he was manning after the shop’s owner surreptitiously installed a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Joel Malubay, 23, “had no choice but to admit to having committed the crime” after he was seen rummaging through the shop’s drawers Thursday night, Superintendent Ferdinand Ampil, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 7, said in an interview.

Ampil said Malubay stole P800 and a CCTV camera worth P15,000 from Dynasty Upholstery and Furniture Center located along Edsa in Barangay E. Rodriguez, which installed the CCTV monitors after valuables and money started getting lost since February.

He said the security guards did not know when the management installed the CCTV cameras in the furniture shop.

Ampil said Malubay has been charged with qualified theft.  – Reinir Padua
