MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested a 23-year old man for causing trouble in a videoke bar in Quezon City at past midnight Saturday then attacking a barangay tanod who responded to calls for help.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 8 commander, Superintendent Oscar Palisoc, said Jeroland Hernandez had been drinking heavily because his girlfriend had broken up with him because he was jobless.
At around 2:15 a.m., Hernandez started causing trouble at Nogie’s Videoke Bar near his house in Barangay Marilag, then attacked barangay tanod Joel Bais, who rushed to the scene.
Bais told police the suspect punched him and threatened him with a fan knife but was subdued by his fellow barangay tanods Noel Montero and Danilo Garcia. The barangay tanods then turned Hernandez over to the police.
The Quezon City prosecutor’s office has set P2,000 bail for each of the cases – assault on a person in authority and possession of a deadly weapon – filed against Hernandez. – Michael Punongbayan
