2 killed as car slams into MRT post

MANILA, Philippines - Two men died after the car they were riding crashed into a concrete post of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) on North EDSA in Quezon City yesterday morning.

Traffic police identified the two men as Jeffrey San Juan, 28; and Jayrol Carillo.

Police said San Juan died on the spot while rescuers were able to bring Carillo to the East Avenue Medical Center, where he died upon arrival.

Police said San Juan was driving a blue Honda Civic (WCH-471) with Carillo sitting beside him when the vehicle suddenly smashed into the concrete pillar of the MRT at past 5 a.m. on the southbound lane of EDSA in front of the St. Augustine School of Nursing in Barangay Phil-Am.

Rescuers from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority pulled out the two men from the wrecked vehicle.
