MANILA, Philippines - Two children and their mother fell into a creek after their shanty collapsed amid heavy downpour yesterday morning in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City.
Jonalyn Dayno, 21, remains missing. Her husband, Lito, said strong currents swept her away after she helped him rescue their children – Princess Anne, 4, and Angelito, 3.
“They (children) were brought to the Quezon City General Hospital after they suffered bruises and drank water from the creek. But they are now okay,” Senior Inspector Reynaldo Medina Jr. said.
He said that as of yesterday afternoon, rescue teams were still searching for Jonalyn along the banks of the creek, which leads to the Dario River.
Lito, a construction worker, told reporters that he was cooking rice at one end of their shanty when a part of the flooring collapsed. He said they have been staying in the shanty, made of light wood, for about six years. – Reinir Padua
