4 Manila cops face extortion raps
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Rodolfo Magtibay summoned four policemen accused of extortion to a confrontation with their alleged victims this morning.
Magtibay ordered a full-dress investigation after criminology student Jayson Garganiera accused SPO1 Nestor Dagami, PO3 Roy Velano, PO1 Reynaldo Olivo Jr. and PO1 Aries Gonzales of robbing him and his three friends of P1,800 after arresting them at a police checkpoint at around 1 a.m. on Aug. 22 for driving without helmets.
Garganiera said the policemen only set him and his friends free after taking their money and his silver ring. – Nestor Etolle
