- Michael Punongbayan -

MANILA, Philippines - A one-year and eight-month old boy drowned after accidentally falling into a river while playing with friends during heavy rains in Quezon City Saturday.

The bloated body of Accel Jamoso was found floating at the Barangay Bahay Toro part of the Dario River around 5:a.m. yesterday.

Reports from the Quezon City Police District said the victim, a resident of No. 145 Ibayo Dos, Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches, Quezon City, was playing in the rain Saturday afternoon when he slipped and fell into the water. His playmates rushed to inform the boy’s mother, Maridee Yee, 21, who was busy attending to household work, of what had happened.

They said the victim accidentally slipped into the river, sank, and disappeared after being taken away by the strong current.

Neighbors, with the help of barangay authorities tried to search for the child but efforts to locate and rescue him failed.

More than 12 hours later, witness Eduardo Janolan, while answering the call of nature near the Dario River in Barangay Bahay Toro, saw the victim’s body floating in the river and immediately informed police.
