Fake policeman arrested
MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office arrested a fake policeman who yielded a suspected stolen car and an unlicensed firearm in Caloocan City Tuesday night.
The arrest of Victor Gulfan, and the recovery of a black Nissan Sentra brought to 41 the number of persons accounted and 32 vehicles confiscated since the NCRPO started an all-out war against car thieves since July.
NCRPO chief Director Roberto Rosales vowed that there would be no let-up in the drive against stolen cars.
“We are in the thick of our effort to bring down to its lowest level car theft incidents in Metro Manila and our operations against car theft syndicates is a continuing process,” Rosales told The Star.
Rosales said an NCRPO team spotted Gulfan while driving the stolen Nissan Sentra (SKL 418) along Deparo St., in Caloocan City at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
When flagged down, Gulfan failed to show documents supporting ownership of the vehicle, reports reaching Rosales said.
Gulfan also yielded a police identification card showing his rank as Senior Police Officer 3 (SPO3) and a .45 caliber automatic pistol, whose license expired in 2005.
Gulfan choose to remain silent on the charges against him.
In a serious bid to curb car theft syndicates in the metropolis, Rosales led the raid at the Land Transportation Office compound in Quezon City on July 9 resulting to the arrest of persons responsible for the registration of stolen vehicles using reproduced LTO documents.
Among the recovered vehicles was a Range Rover, sporting a No. 8 license plate issued to House members, and owned by a certain Mark Chua.
Chua, who owned three bar joints in The Fort in Taguig City, is the brother of Eric Chua, one of the suspects in the spread in the Internet of the sex video of Dr. Hayden Kho and actress Kristina Halili.
The NCRPO has filed appropriate charges against Chua before the San Juan City prosecutor’s office.
