Caloocan holds anti-TB convention
MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government highlighted its observance of the Lung Month by conducting the first citywide convention for tuberculosis task forces last week under the auspices of the city health department.
Mayor Enrico Echiverri said a total of 24 TB task forces and around 500 persons participated in the event aimed at intensifying the information and education campaign “relative to the eradication of the dreaded but curable lung disease” in the city.
At least 13 newly organized task forces will join the 24 other task forces tasked to spearhead the anti-TB projects, he said.
Among the activities lined up for the month-long celebration include anti-TB symposia at 189 public and private schools in the city; posting of streamers and information posters; distribution of materials and leaflets about TB and how to avoid it; and simultaneous parades and motorcades at various health centers.
A memorandum of agreement to continue the fight against TB was also signed by the Caloocan City government, the World Vision Foundation Inc. and the Department of Health during the activity. – Pete Laude
