MANILA, Philippines - A 30-year-old man was beaten and stabbed to death by a group of young men following a computer game match in Tondo, Manila yesterday.
Dennis Ampeloquio died at the Tondo General Hospital while being treated for several stab wounds.
Police later arrested one of the suspects, identified as barangay watchman Roby Jann Josue, 21. Josue denied any involvemnent but named Jason Doria, 20, as the one who stabbed the victim and Paolo Estopace as his accomplice.
Senior Police Officer 2 Richard Lumbad said Ampeloquio, with two others, challenged Estopace’s group to a “Counterstrike” game for a P100 bet at a neighborhood computer shop.
Ampeloquio’s group lost, and the victim hurled invectives at Estopace, who went out of the computer shop but not before threatening the victim.
Witnesses said Ampeloquio was walking home when Estopace’s gang accosted him, then took turns beating him until one of them pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim. – Nestor Etolle
