Quezon City hospital has new emergency room
MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has inaugurated the P4 million new emergency room of the Quezon City General Hospital, showcasing the city government’s continuing effort to develop the QCGH into one of Metro Manila’s most competitive healthcare facilities.
Belmonte said the new facility highlights the ongoing development of the QCGH, which includes the construction of a P500-million new hospital building. He said it is imperative that hospital resources should be given to those who really need it.
The new emergency room features, among others, an acute care unit, resuscitation area, pediatrics, ambulatory care unit and an observation unit. Dr. Rogelio Mari Dueñas chairs the emergency room department.
QCGH, located at Seminary Road, Edsa, is one of two city-owned hospitals, the other being the Novaliches District Hospital. Last year, about 40,000 patients were admitted in the QCGH emergency room, averaging about 119 admissions daily. The redevelopment of the QCGH is now a work in progress with the ongoing construction of its new hospital building. At least 25 percent of the scope of the work has already been completed.
The city’s new medical center, considered as one of the biggest vertical projects of the Quezon City government, will feature, among others, a 40-bed emergency complex, 26-bed intensive care unit, 8-bed operating room and other state-of-the-art facilities and amenities. About 1.2 hectares of QCGH’s land area has been set aside for the construction of the new hospital building, which is expected to be completed in June next year.
The city hopes to provide the city’s poor with affordable and state-of-the-art medical care with the proposed transformation of the QCGH.
Development plans for the city-run hospital also includes the acquisition and purchase of much-needed equipment and facilities, which include CT scan and magnetic resonance imaging.
The city government under the Belmonte administration wants to increase investments for primary health care to further strengthen health services at the barangay level and promote family health and nutrition programs among the city’s poor.
