MANILA, Philippines - Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines and League of Cities of the Philippines President, Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos yesterday led his constituents in the inaugural blessing of the state-of-the-art city crematorium and the construction of the city columbarium and chapel inside a public cemetery in Barangay Vergara.
This is the first time that a local government will provide such services. Also inaugurated, was the 1,000 newly constructed units of niches.
“This columbarium is a realization of one of my greatest wishes to provide decent resting place for those who have less in life. Kung ipinagdiriwang natin ang ating buhay, huwag din nating kalimutan ang kapakanan ng ating mga mahal sa nakahimlay na,” said Abalos during simple rites marking his birthday.
“The welfare of our less privileged Mandaleños must not be taken for granted and left to chance. If we are to lead, then let us lead by action,” he said.
The mayor said that the construction of the columbarium is also anchored on the blueprint project of the city government on urban planning, considerably, lessening the decongestion problem of the city.
