Irate biker shoots guard who asked for ID

MANILA, Philippines - A security guard of the BF Homes Subdivision in Las Piñas City was shot at past midnight yesterday by a motorcycle rider who became angry when the guard asked him to surrender his identification card to enter the subdivision.

Police Officer 3 Raul Ibañez said Benigno Cafugawan, who works for the FJS Security Force, is under observation at the Las Piñas General Hospital.

Police said that at about 12:45 a.m., the unidentified attacker and a woman arrived at the subdivision gates manned by Cafugawan and three other guards.

The guards flagged down the couple and asked for the suspect’s identification card. The suspect refused. This led to a heated argument between the guards and the suspect, but his companion intervened and convinced him to surrender his ID.

When the suspect returned to claim his ID, he shot at the guards, hitting Cafugawan in the forehead. The suspect fled towards the Alabang-Zapote area.

Police recovered four 9mm shells at the crime scene.

Ibañez said they have launched a manhunt for the suspect. – Rhodina Villanueva
