1 hurt in failed store heist

-

MANILA, Philippines – Two armed men in white-faced bonnets robbed a couple tending a local neighborhood store in Caloocan City early yesterday.

Vicky Taghap, 52, husband of storeowner Gloria, 58, suffered a gunshot wound in the abdomen when he tried to grab the .38 caliber revolver held by one of the suspects.

Taghap was taken to the FEU Hospital in Quezon City for treatment.

Police Officer 2 Joselito Bagting said Gloria was opening the store at around 5:30 a.m. when the suspects approached her and demanded money.

As one of the suspects went out of the store to serve as a lookout, Taghap grappled with the other suspect for possession of the gun.

The gun went off, hitting Taghap in the abdomen. The suspects fled on their motorcycle without taking anything. – Jerry Botial
